BAM!

When quarterback Johnny Spurling cancels his blind date with Rachel Gillette on account of matrimony, she cheerfully agrees to a substitution—Sean Decker, another hunk in pro football’s feared Triple Threat. But love doesn’t spark between the adorable kicker and the kindergarten teacher, and she wonders if she’s destined to sit on the bench forever.

No one is crazy enough to match Rachel with the third member of the Triple Threat. Bam Bannerman is Thor-like of body, potty of mouth, and hot as hell. And when he spots the classy blonde at Johnny’s wedding, he’s determined to have some fun. Sure, she’s prim and proper, but he’s Bam, isn’t he? So no problem.

To Rachel, who’s tired of being ignored and rejected, the rowdy halfback is a hilarious change of pace. They sneak away, he rocks her world, then she fondly bids him farewell.

But Bam isn’t done scoring, and before Rachel knows what’s hit her she’s enjoying weekly hookups with the irrepressible stud. When a heartsick Sean signals he might want to get back into the game, she suddenly finds herself with her hands full—and discovers her arms, and maybe even her heart, are full too.

3 Star review

When a book is set with hot football stars as a backdrop, it has to be a winner. I know with this group comes with the reputation for girls and one night stands galore, but I really just didn't like the way this one played out.

This time around it is Bam's turn to get in on the action. OK, really Bam has apparently gotten a lot of action already, what I meant is that it is his turn for a relationship. Enter Rachel Gilette, she was the one who has already been stilted by two other of Bam's teammates, Johnny and Sean. When the two have a crazy hookup at at wedding near the beginning of the book, I was like, really. Unfortunately I could not get in to Bam's crude mannerisms and actions. I couldn't get past Rachel's behavior at the wedding and then after. I did love Bam's nice gestures during the book but seriously, could the man just not express himself to her.

On top of Rachel getting Bammed repeatedly, there is a side story of Sean and Kerrie. This story line may be a hard sell for some as there is no other words for this other than cheating. Honestly I don't care the situation, this is cheating. And really I don't the instalove and Kerrie is so sweet. Most of the time she seemed like some bubblehead on one hand but manipulative on the other. She knows what she wants and she is determined to keep her lifestyle and status no matter what. I also don't get all the fascination and desire everyone has for Ericka. Not sure if I needed to read the other books to appreciate it, but there was just too much kissy kissy going on that I didn't understand.

Now this is only my opinion and others may love the antics of this group of characters, it just wasn't for me.

Romance with the right amount of sports.
By pw reader
Play Date is the third in this series that I have read by Kate Donovan. As I have said in earlier reviews of the first two in the series, I am not a sports fan. However, the focus of Ms. Donovan is on the characters and their struggle in finding a love for life. With that said, I enjoy this series immensely.

Her characters are always different and the story line interesting. It is predictable only in the sense that you expect them to have a HEA by the end. Rachel was a likable character so it was easy to want her to be loved and accepted. In comes, Bam, just like his name implies he is full of life, even if he sometimes seems to be the Flintstone character by the same name. He is so not her type but just who she needs. That was an awesome appeal of this story, seeing how they would fit together. I wanted to keep reading to seeing how he won the girl for life.

I am come to expect an interesting love story with seemingly mismatched characters from Kate Donovan. She does not disappoint. I would have enjoyed this book even if I had not read the others in the series. Each book is complete in itself with no cliffhangers.

I always enjoy Kate Donovan's books
By Avid Reader
I always enjoy Kate Donovan's books, but I absolutely loved this one. It was hilarious, I laughed throughout the book which is rare. I thought all the characters were just right and Bam was perfect. This is the first time I've formed such a clear picture of a character as I did of Bam. Kate Donovan is able to mix sex, romance, love and humor in a way that I haven't found anyone do better. I highly recommend this book.
